About Spaulding Square

Spaulding Square is a small residential oasis consisting of about 160 single family homes in the City of Los Angeles. The Square is named after California architect Albert Spaulding, who developed the eight-block area between 1916 and 1926. Most of the early residents were silent film stars and directors. Many of the homes in Spaulding Square are early Colonial-style bungalows, although you will also see examples of other period revival styles such as Italian Renaissance, English, Mediterranean, Spanish Colonial, Prairie, and Craftsman. In 1993, Spaulding Square was designated by Ordinance 184903 a Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ) by the City of Los Angeles, thus preserving its very special ambiance and assuring the preservation of the architecture of this historic district.

Spaulding Square is the area bounded by N. Spaulding Avenue, Sunset Boulevard, Orange Grove Avenue and Fountain Avenue. It includes:

  • 1300 & 1400 blocks of N. Spaulding Avenue
